How to Choose the Right Engine Oil for Your Bike

Choosing the wrong oil can cause poor performance and engine wear. The right oil depends on your engine and riding conditions.

What to check

• Viscosity grade — e.g. 10W-30 or 20W-40, as specified in the manual.
• Type — mineral, semi-synthetic, or fully synthetic.
• JASO rating — look for JASO MA/MA2 for wet-clutch bikes.

Using the correct oil protects the clutch and gearbox. Change the oil filter too — find the oil filter part number for your bike.
